Daniel became a Director of A.S.James Pty Ltd in 2020 and is a Chartered Professional Engineer recognised by Engineers Australia, as well as a member of the National Engineering Register. He holds Diplomas in Resource Management, Engineering Technology and Project Management.

Daniel commenced his career with Thiess Services, where he trained and worked as a Hydrographer for seven years. Since joining A.S.James in February 2004, he has progressed through the organisation to become Laboratory Manager of the company’s NATA-accredited Ballarat laboratory and, subsequently, a Director.

Throughout his career, Daniel has played a key role in delivering a broad range of engineering projects across Regional Victoria, South Australia and metropolitan Melbourne. His experience includes the programming and supervision of geotechnical investigations, along with the design of foundations for commercial, industrial and residential developments.

Graeme, who became a Director at A.S.James Pty Ltd in 2020, graduated from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He began his career as a Geologist/Environmental Consultant in Melbourne from 2001 to 2007. Since joining A.S.James Pty Ltd in April 2007, Graeme has played a key role in engineering projects, focusing on designing foundations for commercial, industrial and residential developments.

He has also applied his expertise in Geotechnical Engineering applications such as slope stability analysis and land slide risk assessment. His work includes projects within local councils such as the Shire of Yarra Ranges (SOYR), Moreland City Council and Mornington Peninsula Shire, particularly in areas covered by a Schedule to Erosion Management Overlay (EMO) prone to slope instabilities. Graeme is a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) and holds registration as a Registered Professional Geoscientist (RPGeo) specialising in Geotechnical Engineering.

Padraic (Paddy), who became an Associate Director in 2024, has built a distinguished career in geotechnical engineering, beginning with his foundational experience in structural engineering during his Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Monash University. Since joining A.S.James in 2015, Paddy initially worked in the geotechnical laboratory as an offsider for drillers before graduating in 2017 and stepping into his current role as a Geotechnical Engineer.

In his role, Paddy oversees a diverse range of geotechnical projects encompassing residential, commercial, and industrial structures. His expertise includes managing geotechnical investigations and producing detailed reports for projects involving low, medium, and high-rise buildings, slope stability assessments, retarding basins/wetlands, risk assessments, flexible pavement designs, and earthworks for commercial and industrial subdivisions. While the majority of his work is concentrated in Melbourne and outer Melbourne suburbs, Paddy has also successfully managed projects across regional Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, and New South Wales.

Paddy is renowned for his innovative use of technology in geotechnical engineering, leveraging A.S.James’ extensive historical data to provide precise, data-driven engineering solutions.

Shyamalee Herath received a Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 2000 and Professional Masters Degree in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation from ITC, Netherlands in 2001.  Shyamalee worked as a Geotechnical Engineer in National Building Research Organisation Sri Lanka since 1994 to 2005.  Since joining A.S.James in September 2005, she has been involved in designing of foundations for commercial and residential developments, pavement designs and slope stability assessment and landslide risk assessment.

Shyamalee is a Chartered member of the Engineers Australia, Engineers Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society.

Carellys is a Geotechnical Engineer with over a decade of experience in geotechnical investigation and design across Australia and overseas.

Prior to relocating to Australia, she worked on urban and infrastructure projects in Colombia and Venezuela involving onshore and offshore geotechnical investigations, in-situ testing (CPT, SDMT, PMT, seismic reflection and refraction), and instrumentation.  Her responsibilities included interpretation of field and laboratory data, derivation of geotechnical design parameters, and the design of foundations, slope stability assessments, retaining structures, deep excavations, landslide stabilisation measures, ground improvement solutions and geotechnical risk assessments across varied soil conditions.

In Australia, she has predominantly worked on the design of temporary works for major transport and infrastructure projects in Victoria.  Her responsibilities have included logging of soil and rock samples, which has strengthened her understanding of local geological conditions in Melbourne and surrounding areas, as well as slope stabilisation design, excavation assessment, retaining systems and foundation solutions supported by numerical modelling and detailed ground characterisation.

Hoan is a member of Engineers Australia.  Hoan worked for over a decade in an architectural curtain wall/facade (predominantly for high rise) firm before he completed his civil engineering degree at Swinburne University of Technology in 2011.

Since joining A.S.James Pty Ltd in January 2012, he has been involved in engineering projects designing foundations for commercial/industrial/residential developments and flexible pavements for both local council and state roads.  He has also applied other Geotechnical Engineering applications such as slope stability analysis and land slide risk assessment.

Amir is a member of Engineers Australia and prior to A.S.James, he gained experience in research while completing his Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Swinburne University, researching the suitability of tyre-derived aggregates (TDA).  He completed his civil engineering degree at the Swinburne University of Technology in 2019.

Since joining A.S.James Pty Ltd in 2019, he has been involved in managing engineering projects for commercial, industrial and residential developments, including flexible pavement designs, foundation designs, slope stability assessments and landslide risk assessments.

Furkan is a member of Engineers Australia and received a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Turkey in 2016.  After graduating he gained 3 years of geotechnical experience working overseas, he has developed a strong foundation in the field on a variety of projects.  He has particular proficiency in geotechnical numerical modelling in earth retaining systems and ground improvement in applications like deep excavations, foundations, landslides, road and railway projects.

While receiving an MBA degree in Victoria, he transitioned his career focus to structural engineering with a specialization in residential design.  After working 3 years in structural engineering, Furkan has recently returned to his roots in geotechnical engineering and joined A.S.James Pty Ltd at the beginning of 2023.

After graduating, Tim’s career commenced with two years spent in a structural engineering office designing steel and concrete structures. Within that office, he established a small geotechnical arm in 1979-1980.  This small business was bought by A.S.James Pty Ltd soon after.  Through progressive achievement from this point Tim, furthered himself to finally become Managing Director of A.S.James in 1992. In June 2024, Tim retired from working full-time and leaves behind a legacy that has profoundly shaped the A.S.James brand, with the company appointing him as a Distinguished Engineer. Tim continued to influence the company’s geotechnical engineering direction and mentor the next generation of engineers until the end of 2025. He now supports the team as a Consulting Geotechnical Engineer.
