Laboratory Services
A.S.James operate two fully accredited NATA laboratories in Clayton South and Ballarat, Victoria providing comprehensive laboratory services.
Ballarat Laboratory marks 30-years of NATA accreditation on 28 March 2025. Clayton Laboratory marks 50-years of NATA accreditation on 3 August 2021.

Our laboratory services at A.S.James specialise in Construction Material Testing for a wide range of clients across Greater Melbourne, country Victoria with precision and expertise.
Staff at A.S.James are extensively trained in both field and laboratory testing. Our laboratories are equipped to handle the full spectrum of testing requirements for geotechnical investigations conducted by A.S.James engineers, ensuring comprehensive and precise analysis.
Our staff are experienced in earthworks supervision to AS 3798, Pavement Investigations in accordance TB 40 and pavement testing in accordance with VicRoads (Department of Transport) methods.

- Ballarat – NATA Accreditation Number 9855
- Clayton South – NATA Accreditation Number 934
NATA accredited laboratories for full range of compaction, classification and CBR determination of soils in accordance with both AS 1289 and VicRoads test methods. Fully equipped for consolidation, triaxial, permeability, pH electrical resistivity testing, permeability pinhole dispersion.

Tom is a Ballarat Manager and Senior Field and Lab Technician at our Ballarat Laboratory and has worked with A.S.James since 2011. He has an excellent understanding of all testing completed in our laboratories. Tom has completed a Diploma in Laboratory Techniques and is recognised as Level 5 by NATA.

Clayton South Laboratory Manager
Stephen, our Laboratory Manager at the Clayton South facility, has been with A.S.James since 1992. With extensive knowledge of our laboratory testing procedures, Stephen oversees all laboratory matters across both A.S.James facilities. He holds a Diploma in Laboratory Techniques and is recognized as a Level 5 NATA assessor.
